Training for Leadership

Dear Uncommon Leaders,

We continue this week with lessons from my time on the Camino de Santiago, which we can apply to our own personal leadership journeys. Today, we focus on the value of training and preparation.

P.S. Happy Summer! ☀️ Have a great week ahead!

This Week's Lesson:

Training is important.

This Week's Challenge:

While hiking the Camino for me wasn’t as difficult as say running a marathon, it is important to train so your body is used to walking with a pack consistently. Last year, I went for a week with little to no preparation. I was able to complete my walk but it was more challenging than it could’ve been if I had trained a little. I left with a few unnecessary aches and pains.

Isn’t that the same way with our leadership? Sure, we can rely on our natural abilities but sooner or later, neglecting our own training will catch up with us. We’ll be in over our heads more often by just “winging it.” How are you training to be a better leader?

This week, your challenge is to evaluate your commitment to your training. Leadership is a very long walk and sometimes even a run, so it’s best to train accordingly.

This Week's Quote to Ponder:

“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.” - John F. Kennedy

Until next week,
