How Often Do You Schedule Alone Time?

Dear Uncommon Leaders,

Happy Mother's Day! 💐

Hope you take some time this week to relax and get refreshed!

Your Sunday Nugget

This Week's Question:

When is the last time you spent some alone time pondering where you are in your life and leadership?

This Week's Challenge:

Leadership by its nature means we are often surrounded by other people. I like this; in fact, I often crave being with my team. I also know that though it’s a challenge for me, I need to schedule some alone time to think, to plan and to assess where I want to go.

A couple of best practices that help me when I schedule this time alone are:

1. Disconnect as much as possible. I put my phone on "do not disturb," which helps me mentally disconnect.

2. Have a theme or purpose for the alone time you schedule. Maybe it’s just to unwind or perhaps you set aside the time to think through a problem or challenge. The time is most effective when it’s purposeful.

3. Schedule it in advance with recurring appointments in your calendar. It is more likely to happen if you do this.

Alone time can lead to better mental health, re-charging our batteries and breakthroughs in our development and leadership. This week, your challenge is to schedule your alone time. I’m in the midst of some time alone right now and it’s just what the doctor ordered. 😃 Have an uncommon week!

This Week's Quote to Ponder:

"Alone time is when I distance myself from the voices of the world so I can hear my own." - Oprah Winfrey
