How Good Do You Want to Be?
Dear Uncommon Leaders,
The next three Sunday Nuggets will be lessons I learned from my friend and mentor Mark who recently passed away. He definitely had Uncommon Influence in my life and his influence is worthy of sharing with you.
Your Sunday Nugget
This Week's Question:
How good do you want to be?
This Week's Challenge:
One day many years ago when I was working for Mark, he assigned me a challenging, messy cleaning job in the restaurant. I tackled it and thought I did a good job on it. Mark always checked our work, so when he came and investigated, I’ll never forget what he said. "Kevin, that might be good enough for some people, but it’s not good enough for us.” So, I did the job again and fortunately the second time around I got the thumbs up and "Well Done" from Mark.
This was my first real lesson in pursuing excellence. If we want to be great leaders and have businesses we can be proud of, then we need to ask ourselves, “How good do I want to be?”
This week, evaluate the tasks you take on and ask yourself, “Is my result uncommon or do I need to raise the bar to achieve excellence?”
I’ll never forget Mark’s lesson and I hope you remember it as well.
Let’s go be Uncommon and do Uncommon work this week.
This Week's Quote to Ponder:
"Every job is a self-portrait of the person who did it. Autograph your work with excellence."-Jessica Guidobono
Until next week,
LET'S GO BE UNCOMMON!
