"Caring" and Your Team Culture
Dear Uncommon Leaders,
The next few Sunday Nuggets will focus on “Evidences of a Healthy Team Culture.” These come from what we’ve been seeing from the healthiest teams we work with. Have a great week!
Your Sunday Nugget
This Week's Question:
Is caring for people top of mind in your team culture?
This Week's Challenge:
Recently I heard from a cashier a story about how her boss, the owner of the restaurant, helped her move out of her car where she lived and move into an apartment where she now lives. This story struck me as an example of providing uncommon care for someone. While I am very interested in providing this kind of real care for my team, it is not always top of mind for me. Often, with how busy we are with our businesses and responsibilities, caring for people is not “front brain.” I am reminded of one of my leaders at Chick-fil-A, however, who ALWAYS had care in the front of her mind. She was wired with sensitivity to help meet people’s needs. It was so helpful to have her on my team because she reminded us of various ways we could personally care for team members or regular guests.
Your challenge this week is to think about who on your team naturally keeps “care” top of mind. If we are to build caring cultures, which by the way lead to better results and happier people, we need someone to help us recognize and follow through on opportunities to care for people at an uncommon level.
This Week's Quote to Ponder:
"Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world. For, indeed, that's all who ever have.” - Margaret Mead
