I would climb any mountain
Sail across a stormy sea
If that’s what it takes me baby
To show how much you mean to me…
In 1977, the rock band Foreigner exploded onto the music scene with “Feels Like the First Time,” penned by founding member Mick Jones. The song rocks with a melody that sticks in your head…but it’s the thought behind the words that should stick in your heart.
Of course, on the surface, the song is about a man’s love for his lady. But keep in mind, this was the band’s first single released on their debut album, a very exciting time for any performer. Although they had been playing together for a while, the album’s success must have made it feel like the first time.
What are you doing today that still gives you the thrill of the very first time? For which of your goals would you gladly climb any mountain or sail across a stormy sea?
Although there are several things in my life that do that for me, here are just a few:
Coaching: Every one-on-one coaching session presents new challenges and opportunities, whether it is with a brand new client or someone I’ve been coaching for years. Every session can lead to a positive shift in someone’s life.
Speaking: This week I have the opportunity to speak to a group of 100 people in Dallas, and that day can’t come soon enough for me. I love to see the expression on people’s faces and have real-time, in-person interaction with them.
Writing: I love to write these blog articles, as much as I enjoyed writing my three books. I am currently working on two new books, and I am having the time of my life! I love the fact that the written word “hangs around.” Readers can always stop and then pick up where they left off. They can review certain points as often as they like and at their own pace.
When you are excited about what you do, good things follow. Passion doubles your efforts, which leads to better results. And as a bonus, you’ll have more fun along the way!
What are you currently excited about? Where do you need to re-discover that feeling of excitement?
