Being a leader is a burden. When you sign up to be a leader there are some things you have to realize come with the territory. You will be expected to carry more responsibility. You will likely often feel un-appreciated. You will be expected to go above and beyond because that’s what real leaders do. You will have to make decisions that are unpopular. You will be held accountable for other people’s mistakes. Leading is a burden. Deal with it. Or don’t be a leader.
But it is worth it.
When you consider that you are in a position to impact other people’s lives – it is so worth it.
When you reach a goal because of your influence – it is worth it.
When you lead positive change in your organization for everyone’s benefit – it is worth it.
When, at the end of a day in which you led well and made a difference, you go to sleep with satisfaction – it is worth it.
Leaders carry a burden and sometimes it will feel overwhelming. When we get this way we need to be reminded that it’s worth it. We need to remember that when we lead well we are changing the world even if it is in some small way.
And that is so worth the burden.
