I will never forget when, about six years ago, I was asked to speak to my daughter’s third grade class on Career Day.

Back then, business and life coaching wasn’t as prevalent as it is today. When people asked what I did for a living and I told them, “I’m a coach,” they would inevitably respond, “Which sport?” It still felt a little bit awkward to say, “I coach people in the game of life.”

It was difficult enough to explain to adults what I had been doing over the previous four years, and now I had to find a way to explain it to third graders.

Although I speak to groups all the time, I remember being pretty anxious about this assignment. I struggled to put an outline together, and even thought about backing out of my commitment. But of course, bailing out on my daughter’s class would not be the best representation of my profession!

Finally it hit me…a way to explain coaching so that even third graders could understand it:

I help people close the gaps between where they are and where they want to be.

At Building Champions, we first help people define what it is they actually want to accomplish in life and business. Then, we help them recognize and better understand the gaps between where they are today and where they want to be. Finally, we can help them develop a plan to close the gaps, put that plan into action, and stick to it while making adjustments along the way.

In short, we help people close the gaps in their life and business.

What do you really want in your life and business? What goals do you want to accomplish? What are the gaps between where you are and where you want to be?

Who is helping you close those gaps?
